Federal Tax Forms Available Here

Most of the IRS Federal Tax forms have arrived. We are still getting some of them. So if you need individual tax form, stop by and see if we have them. We do not get Kansas Tax Forms or Business forms such as 1099s, W-2s, W-4s etc. Our staff is not trained to help you file you tax returns, but we can assist you in getting the forms you need.

Wishing all of our friends a very Merry Christmas and and Happy New Year! We will be CLOSED on Friday, December 23 through Monday, December 26 for Christmas. Then we will CLOSED on Friday, December 30 through Monday, January 2, 2012, for the New Years’ holiday. So catch us on December 27, 28, and 29! Or on January 3 to begin a new year!

Lap Sitters Enjoy Snow!

The weather out side is frightful, but inside it’s so delightful! We haven’t had a lot of snow here in western Kansas, but at our December Lap-Sit Story Time we enjoyed reading Eric Carle’s book “Dream Snow.” The children acted the story out covering the farm animals with blankes of snow (white cloths). This book was great for working on our counting skills, too. We also shared some “snow” finger plays and the kids had fun with their beautiful paper snowflakes on a stick . Books Are Fun items have arrived at the Ness City Library! Help Santa out by shopping at the library! Lots of neat gifts, decorations, games and books! The items will be available here until noon on Thursday,December 8th. Orders will be delivered and ready for pick- up on Friday, December 9th!

Hats Off to You! Story Time Update

Here is a little update from the past five weeks of story time sessions.

Week two we read “Scarecrow’s Hat” by Ken Brown, a delightful story about Chicken who thinks that Scarecrow’s hat would make a great nest. But she first has to swap various items with Badger, Crow, Sheep, Owl and Donkey. For our craft time, we made scarecrow mobiles.

Our third week was spent reading “A Head is for Hats” by Mary Serfozo. Not only did we lean about many different kinds of hats, we also learned more about some of the different parts of our bodies; and the things you use you ears, eyes, nose, mouth, hands,feet, arms, and legs for. We also had fun creating colorful sand art bottles.

Week four was just before Halloween, so we read the book “The House that Witchy Built” by Dianne de Las Casas. The book was inspired by the Mother Goose Tale, “The house that Jack Built.” But this story is filled with all kinds Halloween characters and their individual sounds. The Children really enjoyed making the various sound following the reading of each character. We assembled Halloween hangings following the story, and presented each child with a pumpkin filled with goodies as they left for home.

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” by Jack Norworth was our story for week five. The children learned to sing the song by the same name as we read the story. If you haven’t seen our video clip, check it out on our web page at nesscitylibrary.org. Following the story we decorated our own baseball caps.

For our final week we had a ‘Hat Party!” Of course, we all wore hats! We read “What Can We Play Today?” by Jane Belk Moncure. We frosted sugar cookies and decorated them with – HATS OF COURSE! The kids really enjoyed eating their snacks and drinking juice.

Changes coming to Audiobooks, Music and More.

The State Library had been in contract negotiations with Overdrive, and they failed. In a nutshell, Overdrive wanted to impose a 700% administrative fee increase over the next 3 years and wanted to stipulate that all of the audiobooks and ebooks purchased from them over the last 6 years were “leased” not “owned” as per the original contract. Either was kind of difficult to take, but both demands together were unreasonable. So we are moving!

Your access for the new audiobooks area will be ready on November 21, so you’ll have time to practice before the Overdrive contract ends. The ebooks company is a little further behind. An exact date for that will be posted on the Kansas EZ Library as it becomes available.

Windy Day Story!

…and the wind blew! We certainly picked the perfect book for the first week of our “Hats Off To You!” story time! Miss Jean read the book “Away Went the Farmer’s Hat” by Jane Belk Moncure. The farmer was in his field one day. The wind blew the farmer’s hat off his head. And away went the hat. The hat landed many places, but didn’t stay there long before the windy blew it away to another destination. Do you think the farmer ever saw his hat again? You’ll have to read the book to find out! Or perhaps you can ask one of the Ness City Public Library story time children.

Following the story, Miss Nancy showed the children how to make ‘pecking hens’ from a paper plate. When they were finished the children had fun watching their flock of hens rock back and forth pecking at imaginary seed on the ground (table).

We apologize to the Tuesday evening group, as we got so busy having fun we forgot to take pictures. We promise to get some pictures of you next time.
