The play will be FREE to all school aged children in Ness County.  Funding for this event comes from not only the library but donations from individuals, county schools, businesses and organizations. 

This year we received a generous gift from the Ness City Cub Scout Pack #131 which supported this program.  Thanks so much guys!  Remaining donation will be put toward next years play!  Thanks to everyone who has help make the Wichita Children’s Theatre a successful and enjoyable event for the kids of Ness County for the past 30 years!

Ms. Jean read the book Little Quack’s Hide and Seek by Lauren Thompson at “Lap-Sit Time” today.  We also reviewed our numbers and played a fun matching game with numbered ducks. 

 Our friends at “Lap-Sit” would like to have some new friends join us.  We meet on the second and fourth Thursday’s at 10:30 a.m.  Children from birth to three years old are welcome to come with a parent or care-giver.  We read story, sing, play games and enjoy being with our friends!  The adults also have fun visiting and sharing their experiences with other parents or caregivers.  For more information call the library at 785-798-3415.

We ended the morning with donuts and soda.  Had a drawing for prizes and each child was presented with a bag of goodies to take home.  Thank to everyone who took part in our summer reading program.  We really enjoy having you attend programs and come to the library.  Reading is a great pass-time that builds reading and language skills that stay with you for a life-time.

FRROOGGYY!  Call and he will come – and he did!  Forty-four kids and adults enjoyed listening to Johathan London’s “Froggy” stories read by Sara McFarland, Southwest Kansas Library System Consultant. And then… HE came! Froggy greeted the children and posed for pictures with everyone! Thanks Sara and Froggy!

We have one more week of Summer Reading, so keep reading and come in to sign up for your prizes.  Saturday, July 24th is our “Make a Splash Summer’s End Party” at the swimming pool; so wear you swimsuits.  First through eighth graders who have been enrolled in the summer reading program are invited to attend.

 The kids created underwater sand dioramas, painted colorful sun-catcher ‘flip-flop’ picture frames (girls) and ‘fish’ thermometers (boys).  They also made individual tropical island snacks (pudding cup with cookie crumb sand and decorated with a shark, fish and beach umbrella). 

 After enjoying their snack and juice, we played a game of “Splish, Splash or Squish Squash.”  For example, if Miss Jean said, “A bathtub of water!”  They would move their hands and arms like you were splashing.  If she said, “A bowl full of Jello”; they would stomp their feet (squish squash).  Starting out slowly and going faster made the kids really have to be on their toes or hands which ever the case might be!  How many things can you think of that are ‘splish splash’ or’ squish squash’?  The last twenty minutes of the afternoon we played BEACH Bingo and everyone won a sack of goodies to take home.

 Our summer reading program is almost over.  On July 14^th “Froggy” will come to entertain all summer readers at the United Methodist Church.  And our ‘Make a Splash Summer’s End Party’ is at the swimming pool on Saturday, July 24^th from 10 to 11:30 a.m.  This party is for the kids (1^st through 8^th grade) who have been enrolled in this years’ summer reading program.

While the group enjoy their treats and tropical punch, Miss Jean read the book “A is for Arrr! A Pirate Alphabet” by Laura Purdie Salas and a history of mythical mermaids she found on-line.  Then the kids enjoyed playing BEACH Bingo and everyone took home a sack full of “booty.”

“Don’t you know frogs are born in the water?  They are GREAT swimmers!” said Froggy’s mother.  “Not, me!” bubbled Froggy.  “I can’t swim!”  We think Froggy will make a “Splash” when he visits Ness City, but you’ll have to come to the program to see for yourselves!  Be sure to call the library to reserve your seat!
